Field Survey Summer 2021

With the support of a grant from Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods, three interns from CHOOSE 180, led by a volunteer from the Friends of Seward Park, are conducting a detailed survey of all ~70 hemlocks in a 4.5 acre central section of the forest. Each tree’s location is mapped, and each tree is measured for height, diameter, first branches (alive and dead) and overall health. Survey and research is conducted with the advice of WSU’s Dr. Marianne Elliott (plant pathologist) and UWs Dr. Tim Billo (forest ecologist), under a research permit (pending) from Seattle Parks.

FINAL REPORT delivered to Seattle Parks, Drs. Bob Edmonds & Joey Hulbert, Shava Lawson of the Seattle Parks Foundation, November 2021
